Stephen began his training at the School of the Pennsylvania Ballet. After receiving a full scholarship to the school of American Ballet Theater, he was contracted by Joffrey Ballet in New York City. Stephen then traveled to Europe to live and work. During this 16-year period he worked with many different companies, such as Scapino Ballet in Amsterdam and CH Tanz Theater in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1984, he was contracted as principal dancer and resident choreographer for the Freiburger Tanz Theater in Germany. Stephen toured worldwide with the company and performed in national theaters and opera houses on many continents. 1989 marked the beginning of Stephen's six years as principal dancer and guest choreographer for Tanz-Forum, the resident modern dance company at the Metropolitan Opera House in Cologne, Germany. During this time he also worked with RTL Television and acted in several films. Stephen received an award for his choreographic achievement from the German Cultural Department in October of 1993. In 1994, he returned to the United States where he founded At Marah Dance Theatre two years later in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He currently resides in Jackson Mississippi, where he is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Belhaven College.
